(April) Fools on the internet

Here’s my run down of internet April fool jokes on the internet today:

Woot sold 1,500 random bags of crap (otherwise known as BoC’s, or simply “grab bags” to the uninitiated) for $1,00,001.00 each.

Google didn’t disappoint, they have released TISP, Toilet ISP. Here’s a quote from their press release.

Google announces free in-home wireless broadband service.

“Dark porcelain” project offers self-installed plumbing-based Internet access

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., April 1, 2007 – Google Inc. (NASDAQ: GOOG) today announced the launch of Google TiSP (BETA)â„¢, a free in-home wireless broadband service that delivers online connectivity via users’ plumbing systems. The Toilet Internet Service Provider (TiSP) project is a self-installed, ad-supported online service that will be offered entirely free to any consumer with a WiFi-capable PC and a toilet connected to a local municipal sewage system.

Installation instructions are included and a worthy read.

gMail wasn’t going to sit by and take that – they came up with gMail Paper.

Wireless Defender sent out a mailing to their registered users explaining that they are being taken down by the US Government. Yeah, it was cheesy…

Dear user,

WirelessDefender.net will be shutting down by the end of the day by order of the US Federal court. Apparently, the manufacturers of the Wireless Defender hardware have convinced the courts that use of third party software with their products is ILLEGAL and any discussion regarding third party software must be stopped.

We disagree with the courts ruling, but do not have the financial backing to fight a corporation on this and must take down the site and forfeit all user records and site logs. We suggest all WirelessDefender.net members discontinue use of USBWiSec in order to avoid criminal prosecution.

Think Geek Logo, April Fool’s Day
The whopper April Fool joke on the internet I always enjoy is the annual mailing from ThinkGeek. And this year they did not disappoint.

Inhaleable Caffeine sticks, RC battle piranhas, and more… good stuff TG. Thanks.

I’ll continue to add more as I find them.
