GMail now supports IMAP!

Mobile or multiple computer users, rejoice! Google just updated GMail to support IMAP connectivity.

This allows your mail client to sync with your email instead of download it all in one shot. IMAP gives users a local/server type of mail experience that will allow mobile users to sync while on the road and with their desktop.

My account was just updated to IMAP. Check your settings for a tab called Forwarding and POP, it’ll be renamed to Forwarding and POP/IMAP. There is also a link to disable it or to configure it. Google’s implementation of IMAP uses encryption, so you’ll need to adjust your mail client(s) to use those higher ports.
